Patient education: Home Isolation during COVID-19 pandemic

You are being recommended home isolation based on your symptoms. This does NOT mean that you have contracted COVID-19 but that you are low to moderated risk. Based on the severity of contagiousness of this illness, you must be monitored at home for 7 days and/or until you get your test results back. This starts from when you experienced your first symptom (Day 0). Symptoms can be one or all of the following:

Shortness of Breath

Fever of 100.4 without the use of fever reducing medications in system

Cough- dry or productive

If you have any one of these symptoms you are considered “symptomatic” You should monitor yourself once or twice a day by taking your temperature and keep a log for your health care provider.

The CDC has implemented the following recommendations for patients:

Stay at home for 7 days from time of first symptom. Patients are to REMAIN at home until 7 days have passed AND 72hrs (3days) preceding the 8th day have been asymptomatic. Meaning No fever, cough, or shortness of breath experienced.

Other Recommendations:

You should wear a mask, stay at home and away from the very young, very old or immune compromised. You should try to limit all shopping trips etc. to only necessary items and medications. When out stay 6 ft. from another person. Wash your hands and use hand sanitizers with 60-90% alcohol.

If you experience any severe chest pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing call 911 immediately. Please tell them that you are being monitored for COVID-19 and if possible wear a mask.
